  • 1. Description

    The Discovery Pass provides a comfortable and economical means to discover New South Wales and beyond.

    The Pass is valid for unlimited travel backwards and forwards on the XPT and XPLORER trains and connecting Coach services which link the capital cities of Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne and regional New South Wales including the Outback to Broken Hill and Dubbo and coastal destinations such as Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay.

  • 4. Discount

    - Free travel on coastal coach connections that link the main east coast rail line with Eden, Forster, Port Maccquarie, Yamba, Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise, the Fraser Coast, the Whitsundays and Yeppoon.

    - One journey on Brisbane's City Network service when in posession of a valid Queensland Rail ticket to connect with a Queensland Rail Traveltrain service.

    - One journey on Sydney's Cityrail service with a valid Countrylink ticket to connect with a Countrylink service. Exceptional value for money.



  • 5. Validity

    The Pass is valid for unlimited travel backwards and forwards on the XPT and XPLORER trains and connecting Coach services which link the capital cities of Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne and regional New South Wales including the Outback to Broken Hill and Dubbo and coastal destinations such as Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay.



  • 6. Terms and Conditions

    a) Passes are available for unlimited journeys on the NSW TrainLink regional rail and coach network.

    (b) Discovery passes are available for purchase by overseas visitors to Australia and Australian residents.

    (c) Travel must commence and the pass validated within 6 months of the date of purchase.

    (d) Passes are valid for 14 days, 1, 3 or 6 months from the commencement date of travel and expire at midnight on the last day. An overnight journey will be permitted on the last day, provided the last sector can be completed by the next day.  Use of the Pass must begin within six months of the date of issue and be completed within the validity period from the first travel date.

    (e) Passes are valid for economy class travel, but may be upgraded to first class seat or sleeping berth. You will need to pay a surcharge to travel in a first class seat or in a sleeper.

    (f) Travel on NSW TrainLink Intercity or Sydney Train services is only permitted when travelling in conjunction with a connecting NSW TrainLink regional service.

    (g) Only one passenger per pass. No discount is available for seniors/students/backpackers/children.

    (h) Passes are not transferable.

    (i) No refund is allowed after the pass has been validated or journeys commenced.

    (j) No refund or replacement of a lost, stolen, destroyed invalid or expired pass.

    (k) Unused passes will expire 6 months from the date of purchase and must be submitted for refund to the office of issue within that period; cancellation charges will apply.

    (l) NSW TrainLink luggage policy applies.

    (m) A reservation is essential prior to the use of the pass and entitles the passenger to only one allocation on any service.  As many of NSW TrainLink's rail services are heavily patronized year round, arranging reservations as far in advance as practical will ensure maximum benefit from the Pass.

    (n) Not available for travel on Great Southern Railway, Queensland Travel Train or Melbourne Met services

    You can pre-book any Economy Class journeys onto your pass in advance through us for a small per journey charge, but we are unable to offer upgrades on NSW TrainLink services at this time.

    Upgrades to First Class Seats/Sleepers can arranged direct with NSW TrainLink and contact details for this will be provided on the pass at issue.
